Physical limit vs. contracted capacity (GTV): two different things
A common point of confusion is the difference between the physical limit of a connection and the contracted capacity (GTV / contractueel vermogen). They are set in two different places, and mixing them up is the main reason people can't find where to update their GTV.
Physical limit — the maximum physical capacity of the grid connection. This is set on the main connection when you create the environment in the Digital Twin.
Contracted capacity (GTV) — the commercially agreed capacity with your grid operator, as stated in your Connection and Transport Agreement (ATO). This lives in the Energy Contracts section, not on the connection itself.
There are two GTV values, and you configure them separately:
GTV-E — contracted capacity for consumption (afname)
GTV-T — contracted capacity for delivery (teruglevering / export to the grid)
You'll find both values in your ATO with the grid operator.
Where to set the physical limit
The physical limit is entered when you create the environment:
Go to the customer's overview page and create a new environment (or open an existing one).
Under the Main connection properties, enter:
Physical capacity limit for consumption
Physical capacity limit for production
Save the environment.
These values define the physical boundaries of the main connection.
Where to set or update the contracted capacity (GTV)
The GTV is set in Energy Contracts — this is the correct and only place to change contracted capacity.
In the sidebar, navigate to Energy contracts.
You'll see two default contracts (Fixed and Dynamic) that were created automatically with the environment.
Either edit an existing contract, or create a new contract that matches the customer's real agreement.
Enter the contracted capacity values:
GTV-E (consumption)
GTV-T (delivery)
Note: Changes to energy contracts affect all environments for this customer.
Default behaviour: contracts inherit the physical limits
When a new environment is created, the two default contracts (Fixed and Dynamic) automatically inherit the physical capacity values you entered during environment setup. In other words, by default your contracted capacities are the same as the physical limits of the main connection.
This is fine when the physical limit and the GTV happen to be equal. But if your actual contracted capacity differs from the physical limit, you need to update it — and that update happens in Energy Contracts, not in the Digital Twin.
In most cases it's recommended to create a new energy contract with the correct GTV values, so the contract accurately reflects the real agreement with the grid operator.
Common mistake to avoid
If you try to change the contracted capacity directly on the connection in the Digital Twin, it won't update the GTV — you'll only be changing the physical limit. The GTV is always controlled in Energy Contracts.
Rule of thumb:
Physical limit → set on the main connection in the Digital Twin.
Contracted capacity (GTV-E / GTV-T) → set in Energy Contracts.
